Understanding Santorini's cruise port logistics is essential for a smooth shore excursion experience. Santorini doesn't have a traditional cruise port with docks—instead, ships anchor in the caldera, and passengers are tendered to the old port of Fira (also called "Skala") via small boats.
Board your cruise ship's tender boat which will take you from the ship to the old port. This usually takes 10-15 minutes. Tender tickets are free and available from your cruise ship.
Once you disembark at the old port, you'll see three options to reach Fira town above: cable car (recommended), donkeys, or walking the 600+ steps. We recommend the cable car.
Purchase a cable car ticket (approximately €6 per person each way, or €10 round-trip). The ride takes about 3 minutes. Cable cars run every 20 minutes and the journey is quick and scenic.
Note: Cable car tickets are NOT included in our tour price—this is a separate cost you pay directly at the cable car station.
This is your meeting point! When you exit the cable car at the top in Fira town, your Ultimate Route driver will be waiting for you at the cable car exit area. They'll have a sign with your name on it and will easily identify you.
We'll send you: Driver's name, photo, phone number, and exact meeting location via WhatsApp or email before your tour.
At the end of your tour, your driver will drop you off at the same cable car exit location in Fira. You'll take the cable car back down to the old port, then tender back to your cruise ship—all with plenty of time to spare!
Important timing note: We recommend taking an early tender (if possible) to maximize your time on the island. The cable car can get crowded during peak times (especially mid-morning and late afternoon when multiple cruise ships are in port). Factor in 20-30 minutes for tender + cable car logistics when planning your tour start time.
